TO THOSE WHO DEFEND OUR CONSTITUTION

Posted November 9, 2009

As another Veteran’s Day approaches I am taking a break from writing about the challenges to our Constitution to offer a personal “Thank You” to those men and women who have defended our Constitution and continue to do so. I have the distinct honor to be a member of a family that has had someone serving in every war that our nation has fought from the Revolution until today. I am a veteran, as was my father who served in WW II, and all four of my sons are either veterans or are currently serving.

I also have the honor of commanding an American Legion Post in Carrollton, Texas where there are men and women who are veterans of WW II and every war since then. The members of the Post come from many different backgrounds yet they share a bond that few others understand and some even scorn. They are American warriors who took an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States of America and they did so despite all of the obstacles many of them faced both at home and abroad. They have asked for little in return and have often gotten even less. However, they are entitled to respect, if nothing else.

When I wore the U.S. Army uniform I was spit on and cursed by those who were exercising the very freedoms that I was sworn to defend. I demand more for my sons and all those who have served and are now laying their lives on the line every day. I demand it not only from the American people, but from those politicians who use the lives of our servicemen and women as political pawns to serve their own ambitions. You may “talk the talk” of service to America but the members of our armed services “walk the walk” and they prove it by offering their blood as a sacrifice for their country.

During the last several months I have had the honor and privilege of attending an American Indian Powwow in Bandera, Texas and a performance by tribe members during Santa Fe Days in Carrollton, Texas. On both occasions I was invited to participate in the “Veteran’s Dance” conducted by the Tribe members. This is open to all American military veterans, regardless of their race or background. As the drums play the honor songs and we dance in the sacred circles of the gatherings I can’t help but be humbled by being considered one of the warriors who has served our nation.

As I write this my oldest son is preparing to leave for a 12 to 18 month deployment in Afghanistan. He has already served two tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan. My youngest son, who has served over two years of active duty as an MP, is preparing to receive training to fly Blackhawk helicopters for the Army.

Yet, while we continue to send our bravest and finest to fight and die in foreign lands to protect our freedom we are also seeing them die on our own soil. It is time that we recognize that our brave warriors who died at Fort Hood were killed by one of the same people who has pledged to destroy our way of life. The time for political correctness has ended, we either unite and fight, or we surrender. I have no intention of surrendering. God Bless our men and women in uniform, God Bless our veterans, and God Bless America.

Sir, I would like to thank you and your sons for your service for this once great nation. I agree totally that the shootings at Fort Hood was a terrorist attack. Yet, those who wish to remain P.C., even on Fox News, to some extent, are waffling on this issue. All the warning signs were there and were ignored, for fear of being accused of discrimination, if a complaint had been lodged against Major Hasan I believe ALL Muslims currently serving in the military should be discharged IMMEDIATELY! Our government MUST educate themselves about this brutal religion.
May God bless you and your family!
Ann

Thank you for the service of you family through the years.
God bless and protect your sons as they fight for freedom in foreign, hostile lands.
God bless and protect us as we fight here at home for our freedoms so they may return to the land they love - a land of the free.

BRAVO and thank you and your sons for the service to our great nation. thank you also for the informatin that you bring by way of e-mail and this web site you are a great AMERICAN THANK YOU. herb

Mr. Connelly, Thank you for your service, and I want to thank your sons and their families for serving our great country. I presently have two sons serving in the U.S. Navy. In the days ahead, it will be the men and women serving this great country that will keep our freedom intact. There are many who want to destroy what many have fought and died for. I will fight with others to protect the right of freedom, as long as I have breath. Veterans, thank you again. May God bless you all. Kenny

Mr. Connelly, I am a Vietnamese by birth and an American by choice, please allow me to offer my deepest gratitude to all of our military service personnel for their commitment, service and sacrifices to defend and preserve the freedom we all enjoy daily.
A BIG thank you to their families for their role in galvanizing the characters and principles foundation in the men and women of our military, preparing them for their journeys and just as important, their family's personal sacrifices and continuing supports.

I to have children actively serving in the military (USMC, 1 presently in Afghanistan) and fully aware of the possibilities; I am very proud of their choices and the willingness to put up their ultimate offering to protect what others before us had created so that WE THE PEOPLE can live and speak as FREE citizen.

It only take a single idea and one individual to change the world we all live in and it's our responsibility to choose and make this GREAT NATION a better nation for our future generations to enjoy and embrace.

Once there were more red coats then patriots, however, the will of good men to be FREE are all was needed to fueled their unified vision and determination for the birth of this UNITED STATES OF AMERICA we all love, cherish and call home. We must and shall resurrect this very spirit, again, for our future and the future generations.

God bless our troops, and God Bless America!

Respectfully,

Thank you for your service and that of your family. I, too, am a veteran. Luckily, during my six years in the US Army, there were no major conflicts in which I was involved. However, almost all of my superiors with whom I served were combat veterans. I give thanks this Veterans Day for their sacrifice, and for all of those who gave their very lives so that we can enjoy the freedoms we have today. It will only be by restoring the Constitution to its rightful place as THE Law of the Land, that we will be able to truly honor those who have fought and died to defend it.

Mr. Connelly-

I have no long standing family military service nor losses due to such. I have only the privilage of standing in awe when I hear of the bravery of our service people's victories, challenges and tragedies or meet a uniformed hero by chance on the street on our soil. To personally express my admiration and respect is the least I can do. I have only read and watched doumentaries to grasp the depth of the sacrafices, hardships and cruelties these brave soldiers have gone through. I do live the way I do because of these brave ones.
What you and your family have contributed to our country is exceptional, Thank you, you have my and my families utmost respect and admiration.
To all those that serve a greater cause, may GOD Bless and keep you safe, and my GOD see our County through a time of great testing by those on our own soil that seek to dismantle our foundation.
I pray that men and women of great moral 'fiber' keep coming forward and persevere in the just cause of keeping this land free. To maintain this as the Land of The Free and the Home of the Brave, against All enemies!

GOD Bless and keep us all safe, and Thank ALL those in every area of service to our Great Country

Dear Michael:
Thank you for your personal sacrifices and those of your family that enable the citizens of the United States to continue to pursue our God given rights of Life, Libery and the Pursuit of Happiness. Thank you too, for your defence of the Constitution, our document of law inspired by God for our well being.. I have family members that were killed in the Revolutionary War fighting against the tryanny of the British and for the freedoms of a new, God given country.
Today we are in a new, or is it extended, war to defend and preserve those same freedoms. Our men and women in the military deserve our love, respect and support for their selfless and heroic choices and actions in the face of the enemy.
Many so the called leaders of our country should be ashamed of their words and actions in trying to deprecate the keepers of our freedom.
I pray God will bless our true military men and women for they are doing His work to help provide us with His blessings.

As always my friend it's a pleasure to hear your genuine ways of thinking and to apprieciate the pride you have for your country and fellow Americans! I myself and I'm sure many other true "red blooded Americans" agree that without the warriors, the bravest of the brave, our soldiers of the U.S. Armed Forces we would have lost our way of life long ago. The slap in the face for me is that as hard as they fight and as much blood as they give, our way of life here is still slowly but surely fading away. I think it's because they get used and abused not only in war time but from the selfish and corrupt upper level politicians who only use war, soldiers, and anything else they can muster up for there own personal gain. This doesn't pertain to all but to whom it does SHAME ON YOU and remember that GOD is watching and those soldiers will be rewarded in Heaven!!! I salute you and your sons my friend and my prayers are with them. If you would for me Micheal tell your boys for me that there are fathers such as myself, and mothers as well that cherish our soldiers and defend them when needed and we feel we owe them our everything even though we know they expect nothing in return.

GOD BLESS
Jeremy Adams and family

Mr. Connelly,
Thank you for your efforts to inform the public on the health care takeover. You are truly what makes this country so great. I'm sure your father would be proud. As a Navy veteran, father, and citizen, I am very concerned at the direction the socialists are leading our beloved country. Keep up the good fight. May God bless you and your family.

Mr. Connelly, There is no greater sacrifice than a man (or woman) who is willing to lay down his life for his country. You, your father, and your sons are great Patriots. My son served as a Force Recon Marine in the Anbar Province of Iraq in 2005-2006. God watched over him and brought him home safely to us. I pray God will do the same for your sons. Please thank them for their service, from a very grateful American. Thank you for your service as well. God Bless your family and Thank you, and your sons, for protecting this land I love so dearly. I too am a veteran and remember taking the oath to defend our constitution. I took it very seriously then and am still ready to fight to protect the constitution today and was wondering if it is not time to do just that
